How to compress a JPEG image

Why is my compressed JPEG not smaller?

An image that is already well compressed may become larger when re-encoded. Try a lower quality setting and compare the output size and appearance. If you must stay under a specific KB limit, use a target-size compressor, which can also reduce dimensions when needed.

What is the difference between image size and file size?

Pixel dimensions describe width and height. File size is the number of bytes stored on disk, usually shown in KB or MB. Compression reduces bytes; resizing changes dimensions. Both can help meet an upload limit.
